Dholavira - 40th UNESCO world heritage site in India

 Dholavira which was declared 40th UNESCO world heritage site in 2021 , is situated in Kutch district of Gujarat. It is 5th largest site of India's first urban civilization - the Indus valley civilization(IVC) which flourished from 3000c.BCE to 1750c.BCE .

           It was discovered in 1968 by archaeologist Jagat Pati Joshi. It is 2nd largest site of IVC in India after Rakhigarhi in Haryana. 

          It is one of most unique site of IVC because it is the only site which was divided in three parts - lower town, middle town and upper citadel. And all the towns are fortified in dholavira which was also a unique difference of the site .

    A 10 word long stone inscription carved  in indus script found from dholavira.

     At present a fossil park where wood Fossil are preserved, is situated near it. 

   With the view of knowledge of trade, architecture and crafts dholavira site of IVC is of great importance and good research site regarding ancient history. 

    People who live in Gujarat or near by or who love to know about our history and ancient past must know about this site and it's significance.
