India Gate

India Gate is located at kartavya path , near Pragati maidan metro station, New Delhi .                      It commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during the World War 1 . Facts about India Gate : 1. The memorial bears the name of British and Indian soldiers killed in the North- West Frontier in Afghan War of 1919 . 2. The foundation stone of India Gate was laid in 1921 by Duke of Connaught . And it was designed by Edwin Lutyens . 3. Earlier there used to be the eternal flame, the Amar Jawan Jyoti, which remind the nation of soldiers who laid down their lives in Indo- Pakistan War of December 1971 , but now it is merged with National War memorial flame, New Delhi. 4. The structure is inspired by the 18th century Mahabalipuram Pavilion and had statue of King George V until 1947. 5. SHANTINIKETAN - 41st UNESCO World Heritage Site

SHANTINIKETAN became India's 41st UNESCO WORLD Heritage Site for which India is trying for a long time . It  is located in Birbhum  district of West Bengal. .                  Credit- UNESCO Site          In 1862, Debendranath Tagore spotted this scenic landscape and decided to establish an ashram. The area originally called Bhubadanga was renamed Santiniketan by Debendranath Tagore due to its conducive environment for meditation.                    The building house called Shanti means " abode of peace".                                     In 1901, Rabindranath Tagore chose a significant portion of land and established a school based on Brahmacharya Ashram model.
