India Gate
India Gate is located at kartavya path , near Pragati maidan metro station, New Delhi . It commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during the World War 1 . Facts about India Gate : 1. The memorial bears the name of British and Indian soldiers killed in the North- West Frontier in Afghan War of 1919 . 2. The foundation stone of India Gate was laid in 1921 by Duke of Connaught . And it was designed by Edwin Lutyens . 3. Earlier there used to be the eternal flame, the Amar Jawan Jyoti, which remind the nation of soldiers who laid down their lives in Indo- Pakistan War of December 1971 , but now it is merged with National War memorial flame, New Delhi. 4.
