Humayun's Tomb

Humayun's Tomb in Delhi is the epitome of Mughal architecture. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993.
After death of Humayun in 1556 , his wife Hamida Banu Begum ( Bega Begum) started the construction of Humayun's Tomb. The construction of tomb started in year 1569.
                  
                Architects from Persia were called. Mirak Mirza Ghiyas was the main architect from Persia. Though the tomb is Mughal at core but it's designs are inspired by Persian architecture.
 
Facts about Humayun's Tomb:

1. The construction started 14years after death of Humayun in 1569.

2. Mirak Mirza Ghiyas was the chief architect, called from Persia.
   
3. The tomb is built in center of a square garden which is called Humayun garden.

4. It's a Charbagh ( a for quadrant garden depicting the four rivers of Quranic paradise), with pools connected by channels.

5. The entire tomb is constructed from red sandstone which increases its beauty.

6. The mausoleum is in irregular octagonal in shape .

7. Humayun's Tomb is first garden style tomb built in India during Mughal period.

8. Humayun's Tomb serves as graveyard for Hamida Banu Begum, Dara shikoh and other prominent Mughals. 

9. That is why it is called" dormitory of Mughals" . The tomb is resting place for approximately 150 Mughals from the royal family.

10. This tomb was also the inspiration for Taj Mahal construction.

            I visited this beautiful landscape with my friend when I was staying in Delhi . This Mughal architecture is beautiful in every aspect be it - it's architectural style, it's carvings, it's beautiful natural landscapes and many other aspects.
People who love to go on picnics near these type of sites, can visit Humayun's Tomb and after that there is a garden near it , they can enjoy their picnic there in abode of nature.
