India Gate

India Gate is located at kartavya path , near Pragati maidan metro station, New Delhi.
                     It commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during the World War 1.
Facts about India Gate:

1. The memorial bears the name of British and Indian soldiers killed in the North- West Frontier in Afghan War of 1919.

2. The foundation stone of India Gate was laid in 1921 by Duke of Connaught . And it was designed by Edwin Lutyens.

3. Earlier there used to be the eternal flame, the Amar Jawan Jyoti, which remind the nation of soldiers who laid down their lives in Indo- Pakistan War of December 1971, but now it is merged with National War memorial flame, New Delhi.

4. The structure is inspired by the 18th century Mahabalipuram Pavilion and had statue of King George V until 1947.

5. The entire arch stands on a low base of red Bharatpur stone and rises in stages to a huge moulding.

6. The cornices of India Gate are adorned with inscription of sun , which symbolized the British imperial colony.

7. During nightfall, India Gate is dramatically floodlit, while the fountains nearby make a lovely display with coloured lights.

                            It is a popular picnic spot also. Near it is a small lake , which offer boat ride , if you visit this architectural landscape, you can enjoy the boat ride also. In night time, with lights shows, it looks more mesmerizing.
. This is me , when I visited India Gate, while I was staying in Delhi . I remember clearly, I was very happy after seeing it and the earlier Rajpath, which led to Rashtrapati bhavan, also was very beautiful and mesmerizing at night time.
             One who lives in Delhi or nearby it or who visits Delhi, must visit this beautiful landscape. One can use the cheapest and best source, Delhi metro to reach India Gate.
